Astreopora comprises small to medium-sized massive, submassive, or encrusting colonies with a distinctive porous coenosteum. The genus is known for its irregularly spaced, deeply immersed corallites. Species are sometimes overlooked due to their subtle colony morphology but are taxonomically important within the Acroporidae.
