Just by staying at Six Senses Laamu, you are supporting MUI and can get involved in our work! A proportion of all profit is donated to the resort’s Sustainability Fund, which is allocated towards local projects that benefit the surrounding community and  environment. The vast majority of MUI’s work is supported by this Sustainability Fund via donations to MUI’s three partner NGOs, which supports our research efforts, as well as the allocation of funds to MUI’s education, community outreach, infrastructure improvement, sustainable development and habitat and wildlife conservation projects.

THE MANTA TRUST

Manta and devil rays remain some of the most threatened fish in our seas. Though great steps have been taken to enhance protection for them over the last decade, tens of thousands are still being killed as bycatch in high seas fisheries, and the habitats on which they depend are threatened by development, pollution and the effects of climate change.

Through a donation to the Manta Trust you will be helping to save these threatened rays from extinction. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference by supporting their core initiatives and charitable aims, as well as all manta-related projects based in Laamu.

THE OLIVE RIDLEY PROJECT

Your kind donation will help ORP untangle more turtles from ghost gear and nurture injured turtles back to health. Furthermore, it will help fund their sea turtle population and habitat research, educational programs, ghost gear removal efforts and initiatives to reuse end-of-life fishing gear.

Your donations will also help with the running of their Marine Turtle Rescue Centre in Baa Atoll, where they care for the injured sea turtles rescued throughout the Maldives. Here they currently rely on the generosity of volunteers working with our Turtle Vet to ensure proper care for our patients.
