Marine Biology Intern (Maldivian National Only)

The Marine Biology Intern will work in the Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI), from Six Senses Laamu. The position will involve both fieldwork and writing components. Priorities include guest activities (leading tours, guided snorkels, presentations, workshops), research (assisting our marine biologists in seagrass survey, coral restoration and monitoring programs, megafauna and other conservation programs) and community (offering support in the  education programs). The Marine Biology Intern will gain key skills and experience in Research, Science Communication and Education with active conservation goals. The position would be ideal for someone with a desire to gain experience in multiple aspects of marine biology, whilst working alongside national and international partners, with an ambition to continue in a career in marine conservation.

Essential requirements:

  • Maldivian national

  • Experienced swimmer and snorkeler (with own snorkel equipment)

  • Friendly and confident with excellent verbal communication skills

  • Fluent English

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Own laptop

  • Willingness to learn to dive (at discounted rate), if not already qualified


Desired Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Marine Biology or similar subject

  • Experience in 5-star hospitality

  • Certified diver
