Six Senses Laamu – Junior Marine Biology Programme
The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) offers a free, engaging 10-week Junior Marine Biology online course that blends science, hands-on activities, and mentorship by a team of marine biologists.
What’s Included?
Weekly Modules featuring short educational videos and interactive printables:
Week 1: What does science mean? Start your marine biology logbook and run a home experiment.
Week 2: Coastal science—measure your local shore and explore erosion/accretion .
Weeks 3–5: Learn about coral reefs, manta rays (with Manta Trust), seagrass meadows (with three renowned scientists), turtles via Olive Ridley Project, mangroves, and more.
Week 8: Marine Protected Areas with Blue Marine Foundation.
Week 9: Learn filmmaking—from underwater photographer Alex Mustard and others—to create a "nature movie".
Week 10: Dive into the deep sea and nocturnal marine life, plus a show-and-tell finale.
Why It Matters
Designed for ages 6–16, the programme fosters early awareness, critical thinking, and passionate engagement in marine conservation.
Born during the pandemic, it continues to be freely available as a global learning resource .

Masmahaa Veshi is a free, bilingual (English & Dhivehi) e-learning platform launched by Maldives Resilient Reefs and Blue Marine Foundation to boost marine literacy among Maldivians. The Manta Trust, a global leader in manta & devil ray conservation, has launched a free online Education Portal dedicated to marine and climate literacy. Designed for educators, students, and families, the portal offers a rich collection of multidisciplinary resources:
Ocean Education Booklet: 17 curriculum-linked lesson plans spanning 14 subjects (from biology to PE), created with input from over 500 teachers in 30 countries—ideal for students aged 7–14 .
Activities & Games: Interactive materials like Marvin the Manta Ray, manta bingo, mask-making, biodiversity quizzes, and more to engage younger learners .
Science Papers & Videos: A series of Manta Marvels science papers, educational videos (e.g. Introduction to the Oceans, Sustainable Food), and the Ocean Mindfulness Podcast to support deeper learning.
