SNORKELS

Our complimentary marine biologist-guided snorkels run daily and are a great introduction to snorkelling around Olhuveli Island. The MUI team will help you spot the big stuff, like turtles, sharks and rays and also share stories about the colourful fish and invertebrate inhabitants of our house reef, which is just off Chill Bar. Want to spot feeding green sea turtles and rays? A guided seagrass snorkel is a great opportunity to explore the less-colourful but equally diverse seagrass meadows around the resort. Four times per week, a snorkel boat ventures further into Laamu Atoll to explore reefs that offer different vistas compared to those around the resort. Private snorkel boats and private guided snorkels around Olhuveli island are also available on request.

JOIN THE MUI TEAM FOR A COMPLIMENTARY GUIDED SNORKEL ON OUR HOUSE REEF WHICH SETS OFF EVERYDAY AT 11AM!

Each snorkel excursion is an educational opportunity, where you’ll learn about what makes up a coral reef, what bleaching is, how the organisms on a reef work together to keep the ecosystem healthy and what research the MUI team is conducting to understand these processes.

Each excursion is also an opportunity for you to assist with adding to our turtle ID database by collecting images of the facial scale patterns of the turtles you spot. Email your photos to laamu@oliveridleyproject.org to find out whether they are turtles we know, or whether they are new to Laamu.

Participants must be able to swim at a minimum. First-timers are encouraged to take a snorkel lesson with the resort’s watersports partner Ocean Wings prior to joining a guided snorkel so ensure they get the most out of the experience.
